Our headquarters are in Oakland, CA, but our team is largely remote. We use a variety of tools such as video-conferencing, Slack, ticketing systems, issue trackers and email to ensure close collaboration.


Position Overview

The heart of Cirrus Identity products is effective authentication proxying across many contexts and circumstances. This role requires deep technical fluency in identity and access management, including federation protocols, proxy architectures, and modern authentication patterns, paired with strong product leadership.

Cirrus Identity is a proud InCommon Federation Catalyst partner, with deep roots in the research and education (R&E) identity space. Candidates for this position should have comprehensive experience with this community and supporting R&E institutions with authentication proxying, trust federations, and guest identity solutions.

The Product Manager reports to the Chief Product and Strategy Officer, holding a highly cross-functional role within and beyond the organization. Working closely with key stakeholders, the incumbent will:

  • Support product refinement
    • Develop and manage plans to streamline product capabilities to meet customer needs without redundant features. Oversee customer migration plans to ensure customers have access to the latest capabilities.

    • Contribute to feature prioritization to maximize customer benefit.

    • Own and develop internal product documentation to support internal alignment on product capabilities and indications for use.

    • Work with Compliance to define and maintain clear product boundaries and compliance status for key targets.

    • Support customer-facing change control and product-focused communications, such as deployment notes.

    • Serve (on a rotating basis) as an incident coordinator on call to quickly investigate and remediate any internal alarms or customer reports indicating a possible or confirmed service outage.



  • Support solution alignment
    • Develop and manage new build procedures for customer deployments utilizing Cirrus Identity products to achieve specific goals.

    • Provide technical validation and product alignment guidance for marketing assets.

    • Develop and support a curated demo environment to showcase solutions.

    • Coordinate internal proofs of concept to assess and technologically validate novel applications of Cirrus products, resulting in supported and documented solutions.

    • Serve as a sales engineering resource when prospective customers need support to validate product fitness relative to their specific or more nuanced needs.

    • Lead RFP readiness assessments, assessing and aligning a growing product line against evolving community needs.


  • Support implementation planning and escalations
    • Run weekly meetings to cross-train Customer Success on product developments and alignment.

    • Lend architectural and tactical support for more nuanced deployment plans to ensure project success.

    • Serve as the escalation point of contact when customers have questions or needs beyond the current training of our Customer Success team.

 

Qualifications


Core requirements for this position are:

  • Firsthand customer perspective - applicants should bring experience leading Identity and Access management teams in the research and education space, bringing a deep understanding of our customer to the role.

  • Hands-on technical experience - this is not a coordination-only product role. Applicants should be able to read and reason about cross-protocol authentication flows, especially SAML, CAS, and OIDC, and be comfortable whiteboarding them in meetings with engineers.

  • Product ownership experience - applicants should be able to demonstrate success with managing and developing customer-facing services, effectively communicating with a broad range of technical and non-technical stakeholders..

  • Software product management experience - minimally, applicants should be experienced with leading technical teams through iterative development cycles, demonstrating a track record of timely and successful execution on software delivery.

  • Cybersecurity leadership - as one of the company’s incident coordinators, this role requires ability to advance and mature incident response playbooks, working closely and effectively with other cybersecurity professionals to address shared needs.

Compensation

Starting salary for this full-time position will range from $130,000-$150,000. We offer a comprehensive range of benefits including medical, vision, and dental, with other optional offerings. We contribute 3% of all employee salaries to a 401K program to which employees can contribute up to federal limits. We have a generous PTO plan.
